In Love with the Unputdownable

I was cruising down the highway when it hit me—the perfect solution for Little Jimmy's impossible situation. My heart raced. Nowhere to pull over on that stretch of interstate, I repeated it like a mantra until I could get it on a page.

This is the strange alchemy of being an author: I create the cliffhangers that keep readers turning pages, yet I'm equally held hostage by my own unfinished stories.

What pulls us forward isn't just curiosity—it's biology, best known as the Zeigarnik effect. Our brains remember unfinished tasks more vividly than completed ones. We hate open loops. We crave closure with physical intensity.

In The Vanishing Series, I've deliberately crafted these irresistible open loops:

When Mia learns Aleks has found her—again.

When Chiara realizes her undercover husband isn't just undercover—he's missing.

When Kofi decides to run from traffickers who kidnapped him—then fears for his family.

These aren't mere plot points. They're invitations to lean in closer, to find resolution.

There's an exquisite tension in consumption. "I couldn't put it down" lives alongside "I didn't want it to end."

What book held you hostage, where you couldn't stop reading but didn't want it to end?
